Dark Side of the Light Chasers
by
Debbie Ford

I have ready many, many self-help
books through the years, and darn it, I still need help.
I feel like some of the same old major issues are still plaguing me in
some very vital areas of my life. Until these areas get fixed, I can't
seem to move forward to achieve the life I truly want.
I started "Dark Side of the
Light Chasers" after seeing Debbie Ford, the author, on Oprah.
I read the first two chapters. At
the end of Chapter 2 is the first set of exercises.
I decided that I would not read on until I finished the exercises.
but
the book and exercise accoutrements sat for some time.
I got wind that our local Unity Church was going to be doing a class on
"Dark
Side of the Light Chasers". I
signed up immediately.
I attended the 5-week class.
We read and filled out study guides prepared by the minister, Dean Van
Wie, and did the exercises. We studied 2 chapters per week. Dean did an excellent
job of giving us additional homework that we would fill out on our own, and then
go over during class. The homework took me at least an hour per chapter to fill
out, giving me (or forcing me to have) even more opportunity to digest the material.
The class setting
was advantageous because we could address concepts that we did not fully
understand. With the feedback of Dean, and fellow classmates, we would
leave with the answers, and additional insights we needed. We voted to do
one more class before adjourning on the book. This was a fun class where
we worked on our own "mission statements" and collages.
After reading and listening to
self-help galore for years, like Debbie, I am beginning to realize that unless
you "do the work", nothing changes. In "Dark Side of the Light
Chasers," Debbie gives us many exercises to help us do the work, so that we can
deal with our issues, and hopefully, finally move on to become the person that
we want to be, and lead the life we truly desire.
I highly recommend this book to
anyone ready and willing to do the work, and willing to make, and accept the
changes that will be necessary.
Debbie focuses on the “whole”
person. She shows us how to love
and accept all of who we are, our good and bad, or light and dark sides.
She explains how we receive gifts from those “dark” characteristics
that society has taught us to hide and dislike, which in turn keeps us from
loving and accepting ourselves. She also helps us to see our good traits that we
usually acknowledge in others, but don’t see in ourselves.
She gives many examples and exercises for identifying, accepting, and
when necessary, unplugging from traits that cause us to keep drawing unwanted
events into our lives.
I would love to hear from others
that have ready this book. Have you
done the exercises? Did you achieve
results? I am looking forward to
hearing from you all.
