Saved by the Light

by

Dannion Brinkley & Seth Paul Perry

I listened to Saved by the Light as an audio book on cassette read by the author, Dannion Brinkley.  It is a moving, educational, near-death, after-life experience.

Dannion's mother had told him as a youngster to never talk on the phone during a lightning storm.  Just as he was about to end a conversation with his partner, he was struck by lightning through the phone.  This book is about the experiences he had with the Beings of Light that he met while being clinically dead.

The Beings of Light showed Dannion 117 prophecies, most of which have come true to date.  They changed his life and his perspective on life in amazing ways.  They also gave him an assignment to set up centers where people can learn to re-energize using specialized resources that he would have to figure out.

Dannion returned to the Beings of Light throughout his long and difficult recovery.  He survived against all odds.  No one believed that anyone so severely injured could live and recover.  He knows that he has found his true  mission in reaching out to people through hospice programs and helping teach people involved in Hospice.  He has no fear of dying after his experiences and shares his insights with those preparing to die and their loved ones.

At Peace in the Light

Brinkley and Perry's second book about Dannion Brinkley's Near Death Experience (NDE), is excellent like the first book.  There is humor and insight and updates on Dannion's adventures since the first book.  You don't have to read the first book prior to reading this book because they recap, and give you the necessary background you need, as they go.

Dannion recounts the life reviews that he experienced while with the Beings of Light in both books.  His description makes me feel even stronger that what is important in life is feelings.  You come into life with nothing, and you leave with nothing, except how you feel.  In any encounter with another individual all you leave with is how they made you feel.  And equally important is how you made them feel.  When Dannion describes the life reviews he feels the effect he had on other people, good and bad.

After being struck by lightning, Dannion's intuitive powers were heightened so that he can tune into other people and events, future and past.  He doesn't seem to know what to do with this ability completely, but he states at one point that the Beings of Light were showing him glimpses of the future so that it can be changed.  I think that he receives information to assist in the necessary changes, but yet he seems a bit hesitant to, as Star-Trekker's would say, don't mess with the prime objective.

He also was given formulas with his prophecies.  I can't help but wonder if he has taken them to anyone who has the knowledge to decipher them.  I suppose that when the time is right, the teacher, or physicist will appear, but I guess that I am anxious to know what secrets they hold.

This book is meant as a sort of manual for anyone working in a hospice program.  He teaches you how to tune into another person using breathing and other methods.  I liked the part where he entered the hospital room of a man near death and heard music.  They sat for days listening to the music from the other side.  No one else that entered the room could hear the music.

When my Grandpa was near death, he would put his finger to his mouth as if to silence the people in the room, and wave his finger as if conducting a symphony.  It took me days after his death to figure it out what he was doing.  I know now that he was listening to music we couldn't hear.  I'll never forget the look on his face, he appeared to be truly enjoying himself.  I told my mother, and of course she didn't believe me.  When I read this story in the book I called my mom and read it to her.  She still doesn't believe me.  But I know in my heart that Grandpa was enjoying a celestial symphony.

If you, or someone you know or love is nearing death, this book can help to give you some guidance and peace.  I would like to visit one of his centers some time after reading about them.  They sound like a marvelous experience for all of us.  The word on the internet is that a third book is in the works and I am looking forward to that.  If you have read this book and would like to comment, send me an email and I'll post your insight here as well.
